Mashpee Design Review Committee
Minutes of Meeting Held Thursday, April 22, 2010
Mashpee Town Hall Meeting Room 3
Committee Members Present: Thomas O'Hara, Tom Jalowy, and Robert Nelson.
Also Present: Richard Stevens.
Thomas O'Hara called the meeting to order at 8:40 a.m.
Suns
Mashpee Fish & Lobster
528 Falmouth Road
Mike McCarthy appeared and said that basically this is for the take-out section. He showed photo of
enter and exit signs attached to ice cream cones he was proposing to place in the parking lot. The
Committee advised that the cones were way too big and that Mashpee uses standard, small
directional signage, not the ice cream cone-type signage proposed.
As an aside, Tom O'Hara informed Mr. McCarthy that Tom had been receiving a number of calls on
` ;the building addition...all calls were questioning whether or not this building was allowed. Tom also
stated that on the parking Mike was just to do refinishing, not take out vegetation that was done.
Mike McCarthy said if the parking lot gets redone, that's up to Mashpee Commons since they are the
owner.
The proposed signage and sizes of the signs were reviewed and discussed in detail, including the
following: —
• Bob Nelson commented that if the Committee is setting a precedent and allowing the proposed
signage, then he stated it be allowed only for a 6-month period.
• Mike McCarthy explained the ice cream face board is only seasonal signage.
• Mike McCarthy said there will be fluorescent lighting under the overhead eaves to have lighting
for people standing in line.
• Tom O'Hara pointed out that there is not a lot of headroom clearance, especially if the
overhead face board sign is hanging off hooks. Mr. McCarthy said "no", he's attaching the
overhead sign to the building.
• Mr. McCarthy said signage not going up until the kitchen is finished.
• Window at side of the building is for customers to watch sundaes being made.
CONCLUSIONS:
• Application allowed as seasonal signage to be removed when closed.
• Standard exit/enter directional signs only to be used.
• Mr. McCarthy said with proposed signage he will take sign at side of building down.
• Committee repeated to Mr. McCarthy that any stick-on signs on the windows are
frowned upon.
• Mr. McCarthy was put on notice that the Building Inspector will tape illegal sign notice
on any signage that is not allowed.
