Mashpee Design Review Committee
Minutes of Meeting Held Thursday, May 27, 2010
Mashpee Town Hall Meeting Room 3
Pre and Robert Nelson.
Committee Members sent: Thomas O'Hara, Tom Jalowy, e
Also Present: Richard Stevens.
Absent: George Petersen, Jr.
Thomas O'Hara called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
Signs
CVS Pharmacy
38 Nathan Ellis Highway
Jason Parillo
Jason Parillo appeared and said the main thing the proposed signage is doing is to increase the size
and type of signage for 3 signs at CVS. He said 2 of the existing signs would be replaced; and 1 is a
new sign. He said they are asking to change the existing 2 signs to halo-lit signs and the new sign for
the south elevation would also be halo-lit. There will be no direct lighting. Tom O'Hara asked Mr.
Parillo how he calculated the measurements of the front wall. Mr. Parillo responded that he did not
do the calculations but used calculations that were provided to him. Richard Stevens advised that he
had called and explained that the calculations were incorrect.
Tom O'Hara commented that he would rather not see letters on white backboard. Tom Jalowy added
that he does not like billboard look at all. Bob Nelson-added-that he thinksthesign facing the-parking— —
lot is over-kill. Tom O'Hara advised that Design Review only approves signage up to 20 square feet.
Signage beyond that goes to Board of Appeals for review and approval.
CONCLUSION: JASON PARILLO SAID HE WILL RECALCULATE THE MEASUREMENTS AND
BRING SIGNAGE BACK FOR REVIEW. HE SAID HE WILL PASS ALONG THE INFORMATION
THAT COMMITTEE FEELS IT IS BETTER TO MOUNT ON THE BUILDING, RATHER THAN ON
BACKBOARD.
Starfish Restaurant
20 Joy Street
Tyler Haves
Tyler Hayes presented 2 signs he is proposing to attach to the building...one on Joy Street side and
one on the new road that's being put in. Tom O'Hara asked him about considering using the blade
sign; Mr. Hayes said they prefer using signage on the building.
Tom O'Hara pointed out to Mr. Hayes that they have product signage on their awnings and
unfortunately Mashpee does not allow product on signage. Tom O'Hara said the signage on the
awning has to go to the ZBA.
