w
1
proposed golf and recreation park. Tom mentioned that Peter Sullivan and George
Morton, the developers of the proposed golf and recreation park, had set up an exhibit
in the lobby and answered questions about their project. Tom also participated in a
panel discussion on economic development for the town with representatives from the
Executive Secretary's office, the Town Planner's office, the Selectmen's office and the
D.P.W. Tom represented the Economic Development Committee.
Tom suggested that the Committee might want to take out a half-page
advertisement($345) in a booklet that the Chamber of Commerce is publishing in
order to get some exposure for the Committee. Tom showed the Committee members
a sample of how the ad might look(attached). Jamie suggested that they might take
out a full-page ad for $485 which the Committee elected to do pending approval by
the Selectmen. The Committee then reworded the sample advertisement to more
closely reflect the Committee's mission and promote the use of the guide book.
Tom told members that he would be going to the Selectmen's meeting on Monday to
address the previously-discussed issues regarding hiring part-time people and
establishing a five-member Economic Development Committee. He would request
funds for the Chamber of Commerce advertisement at that time.
Mr. Morton told Sid that he will be working to"sell"the recreation project to the town
of Mashpee by preparing data obtained through researching other similar projects,
describing the positive aspects of having this project in the Town of Mashpee (tax
return, projected dollars, number of employees, etc.)and he would be sending this
information to Tom and the Committee. Mr. Morton asked that the Committee send
a letter with this information to the Selectmen, with a copy to the Planning Board,
stating that the Economic Development Committee is in favor of the project.
Sid discussed his visit to the Planning Board which he attended to inform the Planning
Board that the Economic Development Committee recommended the approval of the
golf/recreation project. At this meeting it was decided that a member of the Planning
Board would go to the next meeting of the Board of Selectmen to state that the
Planning Board was not opposed to the golf/recreation project but that they weren't
going to sponsor the article.
2
