Gus felt that it would be better to know what will need to be scheduled and going over
scheduling with the principals. They could determine if space were available.
Department is growing and if we needed to hire additional people we would have to do it
perhaps through our revolving account or by going to town meeting.
Peter Dinizio felt the Selectmen would support additional staff for the Department if
there were added responsibility.
Maureen Paxton felt it did not matter where the actual request went (Dr. DeMoura,
Principal or Gus) as long as they meet for the scheduling and coordination.
Maureen did not want to draw a line between school use and community use.
Sheila Arnold felt it was better to have a designated person doing the actual usage
request.
A discussion took place on the time which is mentioned in the agreement for joint
scheduling. John Williams mentioned that high school gym would not be available
during the winter months because of all the sports taking place after school. From Dec.
through the end of February the gym is in use by the school. Peter Dinizio feels time
should be left out of the agreement. Gus mentioned having forms in triplicate so that
everyone is informed.
Nancy Caffyn felt it was better to go to one place for scheduling which would eliminate
scheduling two events at the same time.
Peter said everyone agrees with No. 1 on the Contract. No. 2 -- it was agreed to
take the time out and add school Principals instead .of Agent and add ioint
scheduling.
Terrie Cooke is concerned about security. People who are teaching or doing activities
should be subject to security check just like the teachers. Liability was a concern
of Kim Whitney. Peter said it falls under Town Liability Policy.
Referring to the Agreement, Bob Whritenour explained that nothing was written in
the agreement to take away any of the rights of the School Committee or Principal.
Operating under the process of the School Committee, this agreement just brings in
the Director of the Leisure Service to be involved in joint scheduling.
If the gym is not scheduled by the school then it would be available for use.
Gus feels that communication is needed in regard to continuing education and other
programs that we offer. They sometimes get pulled away from us, such as Drivers Ed
and some other summer programs we were going to offer. He is concerned about the
lack of communication and who is responsible for a particular program. Mr. Williams
did not realize this. Peter Dinizio reminded everyone that we were present to discuss
agreement on scheduling. Peter Dinizio said that the school people would talk to the
principals and community people would talk to Leisure Services.
Peter Dinizio said that the Agreement will be redone and printed up for everyone.
Steve Paxton said that the School Committee is scheduled to meet July 29.
