LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING <br />AUGUST 12, 1996 <br />MASHPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL <br />Present: Absent: Also Present: <br />Ken Marsters Gus Frederick <br />Kim Whitney <br />Linda Young <br />Pat Riley <br />Terrie Cook <br />Sheila Arnold <br />I. Opening of Meeting - Kim Whitney opened the meeting at 6:35 PM. <br />II. Minutes - Terrie Cook made motion to accept the Minutes of Meetings of <br />June 4, 1996, and July 9, 1996. <br />III. Communications <br />A. Undate with Doherty's - Christopher Doherty was enrolled in Adventure Camp. <br />An Interpreter was not given during camp time. A lot of communication went <br />back and forth and Mr. Doherty indicated he would sue the Town if there was not <br />an interpreter. An interpreter was found to help out and Mr. Doherty has given <br />us written notice he will not sue. <br />IV. Old Business - Linda Young made a motion to accept joint community use <br />agreement. Pat Riley seconded motion. Motion carried. There will be a meeting <br />with Terrie Cook, Gus Frederick, Ken Marsters, Dr. DeMoura, Peter Dinizio, Bob <br />Whritenour to make them aware of the new agreement. Then it will go to (1) <br />School Committee, (2) Board of Selectmen. <br />Review Rec. Plan <br />Kim Whitney reported - Organization Flow Chart 50% complete. What Leisure <br />Service is actually involved in - identify what benefits to accomplish for town in <br />each area. <br />"Friends of" - Gus reported that a small group met - nonprofit application sent to <br />State and Federal - will incorporate. <br />B:XD - Gus reported that Grant application is in - Request for $400,000 to expand <br />Rec. Bldg. Last year received $30,000 to procure handicapped equipment. (Out to <br />bid at the moment.) We should be able to do expansion - will hear at October <br />meeting. <br />Oktoberfest - Gus reported that Oktoberfest will be held October 11 (evening), <br />October 12 (day and evening). Leisure Services will coordinate the events. <br />Support from Mashpee Arts Council (crafts) and Chamber (food area). There will <br />be two tents - Coast Guard tent 20 x 40 and Commons tent. There will be activities <br />from Friday evening (possibly Country Jamboree) through Saturday evening <br />(family dance). <br />
