Mr. Dinizio met with T. K. Thompson, President of the performing
arts center. Graham Gund has done the conceptual design. They
are raising money to hire an architect to do the full design.
Then they must raise additional money for the construction of the
project. The school project will not be delayed because of that
project. The school will be first.
** Ms. Ahlgren made a motion : at tonight's Selectmen
meeting the following issues be discussed:
1 . Proper architect selection procedures. Where are we
in the process? What is our next step? Direction
from the Selectmen .
2 . Who is the Selectmen 's liaison? Will that person be
at our meetings so they can follow our procedures?
3 . What is the target date for opening of the high
school ?
4 . The Committee needs clarification on our procedures
and our level of operating authority.
Paul Griffin seconded the motion . All members were in
favor. **
MEETING WITH DR. COLLABRO, EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT.
Dr. Collabro stated he has received a contract and has sent it to
his attorney for review before signing it.
He presented another draft of his work - 12/30/93 for Committee's
review and discussion .
Mr. Griffin said there needs to be two lists, the absolute
required items list and sq footage and "discretionary" items.
If the town does not have enough money and needs to eliminate
some items, that list can be used in negotiating.
Mr. Griffin stated he spoke with some firms about the 1 .45 net to
gross conversion rate used by Dr. Collabro. These firms try to
use a 1 .40 rate.
Dr. Collabro said he used 1 .45, some architects can get it down
to 1 .43. Elementary schools is 1 . 35 , middle schools 1 .40 and
high schools 1 .45 . He can do some trial and error conversion
figures using 1 .43, 1 . 40.
Mr. Martiros asked what the ideal classroom size is?
750-850 sq feet. Dr. Collabro thinks 750 is too small , he used
800 sq feet.
The Committee reviewed with Dr. Collabro his list of spaces and
net sq. footage for each.
- visual arts: optional but he has never seen a high school
without it.
- phys ed : required for freshman and sophomores. Made allowances
for everyone to have it.
- information systems mgmt: for the business program. Is not
5
I
