P LL KENNETH C. COOMBS SCHOOL SCHOOL COUNCIL MINUTES Meeting of November 27, 2007 Main Office Conference Room The meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM. Present were Mrs. Maria Cortez(Parent Representative), Mrs. Louise Doyle (Principal), Ms. Claudia Motta(Assistant Principal), Mrs. Palmer(Teacher Representative), Mrs. Wilber(Teacher Representative), and Mrs. Alison Taylor(Parent Representative). ➢ Open Forum ➢ Minutes Approved from October 27`s, 2007 ➢ Parent Bulb Project: Mrs. Olson (kindergarten parent) got 500 bulbs donated to KCC. Mrs. Horner incorporated the planting of the bulbs into science lessons. ➢ Preschool Professional Development: Work sampling online-training for teachers in December. Hands on training with consultant. ➢ Kindergarten Report Cards; o Preschool, and grades K, 1, and 3 all have three report cards. o Report Card Committee to be formed in spring. o Power standards can be plugged in to report cards. o Computerized report cards suggested. o Mrs. Cotton asked if there was a standard procedure regarding parent-teacher conferences. o Mrs. Cortez asked why we only have one set of conferences a year. ➢ Kindergarten Countdown: o Mrs. Doyle and Ms. Motta reviewed the activities for each month beginning in February. o Ms. Motta will give us a list as the activities begin and get finalized. o Mrs. Doyle came up with one of her favorite ideas of the year....... "Build a Bear" could become a part of the countdown activities including Cocoa's Fab Four! o Unanimous approval of Countdown to K activities. ➢ Mrs. Doyle spoke about the "Heroes Program"that honors children of parents serving in Iraq. o Operation Military Kids ➢ Giving Tree Event: Davien Gould will be reading again. ➢ Updates: B.E.A.R. cards will be reinstated soon. The meeting adjourned at 5:OOPM. Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday January 29s, 2008 at 3:30 in the Coombs School main office conference room.
