BIRTHDAY PARTIES AND PLAYDATES
At the back of this handbook, there is a signature page for parents/guardians to complete in
order to authorize the release of their address and/or phone number to the class for the
purpose of play dates, birthday parties, etc. This information will not be distributed unless
you complete the authorization. PLEASE NOTE: PTO members may compile a list which
will be distributed to the children to be taken home by the end of September. This will be the
only list you will receive during the year. Please keep it in a safe place. We cannot be
responsible for lost copies or for children who have not taken it home for whatever reason.
Should you need another copy, it will be your responsibility to obtain one from another
parent in your child's class. Neither the office nor the teacher will be responsible to provide
copies.
Staff are not permitted to distribute phone numbers or addresses of students. There will be
no personal distributions to individuals in the classroom by staff, students, or
parents/guardians. The school is not permitted to distribute personal invitations to children
for birthday parties, play dates, etc. Also, if a birthday party or such is postponed, the school
is not responsible for contacting parties involved. Personal business of this nature cannot be
conducted during school hours. NOTE: The list will also serve as the PTO homeroom
list. It will be used by the PTO homeroom parent for various classroom or school
functions.
GOODIES FOR CELEBRATIONS
All deliveries to the classrooms will be made by office personnel only. Goodies coming into
school must be store bought and labeled with ingredients. Peanut-free classrooms may
operate differently. Teachers will notify parents in particular classrooms at the
beginning of each school year of protocols in those rooms for everyone's safety. Please
refer to Wellness Policy at the back of this handbook.
FIRE AND EMERGENCY DRILLS
When the fire alarm sounds, we require every adult and student in the school to respond.
Students are to:
• stop all talking
• follow teacher instructions and close all classroom windows and doors
while exiting
• pass in single file and walk quickly and quietly to the designated exit
• remain with their classroom teachers during the entire fire drill unless
otherwise instructed.
CODE RED DRILLS
Emergency drills to keep children safe indoors (requiring classroom lockdowns) will be
performed a minimum of twice yearly. The children will be instructed by the classroom
teachers of this procedure. It is similar to a fire drill - stop talking, go to a safe place in the
classroom designated by the teacher, follow teacher instruction, wait for signal to resume
activity throughout the classroom and building.
17
