PUBLIC MEETINGS
There are several public meetings, which include the Selectmen's meeting (usually held
twice a month on Mondays), the School Committee meetings (generally held on the first
and third Wednesday of each month), and the Finance Committee meeting (once a month
on a Tuesday). School Committee meetings are generally listed on our monthly school
calendar, as well as televised on CH.22. The other meetings are listed in the Mashpee
Enterprise and are televised on CH. 22. All are welcomed to attend these public meetings.
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Volunteers are welcome to our school. Volunteers help us provide the best possible education
and success for our students. The presence of volunteers in the classroom provides the teacher
with valuable help in giving individual, small group or clerical assistance. Parents/guardians
may volunteer subject to a CORI (criminal record check). If you desire to be a school
volunteer, you must register at the Volunteer Office. Please remember that volunteering even
in a small and one-time way such as accompanying a class on a field trip still requires a
volunteer registration, a CORI, and a picture identification badge prior to volunteering in the
school. The Volunteer Office can be reached at 508-539-1550 x 174. Placement of volunteers
follows this registration. Volunteers must re-register with the volunteer office each year, and a
new CORI form must be completed every three years. You will find a volunteer form at the
back of this handbook. Please complete the form and return it to school as soon as
possible if you are interested in volunteering.
In summary, pursuant to Massachusetts General Law, it is mandated that all persons having
contact with students must have a security clearance including those who will be chaperoning
field trips. The Mashpee Schools:
• Require all volunteers be registered with the Volunteer Office
• Require volunteers be provided with and must wear a photo identification badge
• Require volunteers have security clearances (CORI) every three (3) years.
Please sign up at the beginning for the school year as clearance takes some time. Signing
in September will expedite your availability to volunteer for regular, routine, sporadic or
even one-time events. If your schedule changes during the school year and you are unable
to continue to volunteer as you originally thought, just get in touch with the volunteer
office to adjust your volunteer schedule of availability. Come join us!
We are most appreciative of the time and talents you donate. We know you will enjoy the
experience of working with young children. Your contributions make a difference in their
lives. It is important to remember that volunteering at school requires a willingness and
commitment to helping children. It does not require any other credential. Our programs,
including math enrichment, are not intimidating. Math Enrichment is a fun and challenging
way to explore math for those students who already excel in the math area. Art History has
a training program for those who wish to participate in that program. In most cases, these
types of programs are so enjoyable, children don't realize they are learning.
46
