TRANSPORTATION OF MEDICATION <br /> STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE IN THEIR POSSESSION ANY <br /> MEDICATIONS, PRESCRIPTION AS WELL AS OVER-THE-COUNTER, WHILE <br /> ON SCHOOL GROUNDS OR ON THE SCHOOL BUS/VAN. <br /> A parent/guardian or parent/guardian-designated responsible adult shall deliver all prescription <br /> medications to be administered by school personnel or to be taken by self-medicating students, if <br /> required by the self-administration agreement (I05CMR210.006 (B)), to the school nurse or <br /> other responsible person designated by the school nurse. <br /> • The prescription medication must be in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled <br /> container. <br /> • The school nurse receiving the prescription medication shall document the quantity <br /> of the medication delivered. <br /> • In extreme circumstances, as determined by the school nurse, the medication may be <br /> delivered by other persons provided they have been designated by the <br /> parent/guardian to do so. <br /> PARENTAL DISPENSING OF MEDICATION <br /> The administration of medications may not be delegated with the exception of epinephrine or other <br /> medication to be administered in a life-threatening situation where the child has a known allergy or <br /> pre-existing medical condition. There must be an order for administration of the medication from a <br /> licensed prescriber and written parental consent. If necessary at other times, parents will be <br /> contacted to dispense medication to their child. <br /> SELF-MEDICATING OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS <br /> Students at this age level need close supervision with all medications, including over-the-counter <br /> medications. No self-medicating will be allowed at the Kenneth C. Coombs Elementary School. <br /> This includes cough drops, vitamins, lip balms, creams,patches and other over-the-counter medical <br /> products. <br /> PARENT/GUARDLAN HEALTH NOTIFICATIONS/ALERTS <br /> • h 1 <br /> Parents/guardians will be notified, as needed, throughout the school year of occurrences <br /> of communicable diseases such as lice, Fifth's Disease, etc. <br /> • Due to increased nut and seed allergies among young children, teachers when applicable <br /> will refrain from these as snacks in the classroom. Parent/guardian cooperation is <br /> essential in this regard so as not to endanger others' health. You will be notified in <br /> writing if your child's classroom is an allergy free classroom. <br /> 53 <br />
