KENNETH C. COOMBS SCHOOL HOURS
CLASSES ARE IN SESSION FROM 8:20AM UNTIL 2:50PM
STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
In today's society, our children are continually excited by new and challenging ideas.
Adaptability to change and respect for education, therefore, become paramount objectives
of learning.
The mastery of basic skills is essential to our children as they prepare to function as responsible
citizens. In their search for knowledge, each child must also learn how to direct his/her own
teaming by mastering the problem solving skills necessary to become a literate adult. The
optimum learning environment should focus upon the needs of the student. It should treat
him/her as an individual and stress the importance of individual creativity and one's own learning
style.
The Mashpee School System continually strives to create, implement and improve programs that
are compatible with tradition, encourage community values, foster good health, develop good
work habits and provide opportunities for innovation in teaching and learning. When this is
accomplished, each child should come to realize more fully his/her own potential as an
individual and be better prepared to appreciate and act responsibly within their community.
PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK
Our handbook is a guide that outlines procedures and policies that relate to school organization
and operation. Please read and discuss the contents of the book with your child. Feel free to call
the school to review any aspect that might require additional information or explanation.
School rules as outlined in this handbook are in force on all school days. They must be followed
by all students from the time they arrive at school, to the time when they leave the school grounds
at the end of the day. These rules are also in effect during any school- sponsored event that may
occur at another time(e.g., in the evening or on weekends).
The purpose of the rules is to help students to behave in an orderly and safe manner at all times,
and to respect the rights of others to learn. Students are expected to use their best judgment to act
properly in situations not specifically covered by these rules. Students who do not follow these
rules will be disciplined by the school staff.
Because state mandates require schools to make certain that all parents/guardians and students are
informed of certain policies, we are requiring all parents/guardians to sign a statement
acknowledging that they have received our Parent/Student Handbook and that they have
discussed the contents with their child(ren). See Parent/Guardian Signature Page at the back
of this handbook.
4
