MASPEE MIDDLE SCHOOL <br /> SCHOOL COUNCIL <br /> THURSDAY,OCTOBER 17,2013 <br /> 2:15 P.M.-ROOM A106 <br /> MEETING MINUTES <br /> Meeting called to order at 2:18p.m. <br /> In attendance: <br /> Sheila Arnold,Patricia Morano,Chris Santos,Sheri Vinitsky,Greg McKelvey <br /> Minutes <br /> • Minutes approved from September 19`h meeting <br /> Appointments <br /> • No new appointments at this time. However,Afterschool Math program position has been <br /> posted(T/W/TH,lhr beginning November 1-May)and appointment will be announced at next <br /> Council meeting <br /> Communications&r Correspondence: <br /> • Cape Cod Five Grants-Educational mini grants of up to$500.00 each offered to Educators. <br /> Applicants notified by end of December <br /> • Samsung Grant-Samsung awards grants to 10 schools. Topic for 2013 is"How Can Technology <br /> Improve the World?" Mrs.Arnold has applied in the past and will apply again this year. <br /> Old Business: <br /> • School Fundraisers- PTO sponsored flower bulb fundraiser earned approximately$400.00 <br /> Lyman Orchards Pic/Cookie fundraiser extended to October 18 <br /> PTO Night Out at Artfully Yours-Thursday,October 17 at 6:30pm <br /> • Next PTO meeting scheduled for Monday,October 21 at 6pm <br /> • School Improvement Plan-reviewed and approved by School Council. Will be put to School <br /> Committee. For next year,law has changed and Improvement Plan must be done by July 1. <br /> New Business: <br /> • Eighth Grade Washington,DC Trip-Trip will be four days(June 1,2,3&r 4). This cuts the cost <br /> down to approximately$650.00. Only omission is Gettysburg portion of trip. At this time,80% <br /> of the eighth grade is registered for trip. Student and parent meetings begin in December. <br /> Students will receive information on raffle fundraising,etc. Chris Santos will give a presentation <br /> on computer safety and security for at the mandatory parent meeting. <br /> • Fundraising Ideas- Auction fundraiser <br /> Other: <br /> • Parent Workshop-A parent workshop will be presented by Maura Weir,Youth Health <br /> Specialist,dealing with adolescent issues on October 24 from 6pm-7:30pm in the High School <br /> auditorium. Topics will include:cutting,the eraser challenge and emotional issues. <br /> • MMS is aware of current situations and is being proactive in their approach to the issues. No <br /> school wide assembly for students in regards to this area will be given. Teachers are educated and <br /> are aware to look for signs. <br /> • An anti-bullying assembly was presented to both Grade Seven and Grade Eight students on <br /> October 16. This assembly was sponsored by MARC(Massachusetts Aggression Reduction <br /> Center). <br /> Meeting adjourned at 2:46 p.m. <br /> Next meeting:November 21,2013 / <br />
