Mashpee Middle School
School Council
Minutes — February 14, 2013
Attendance: Elizabeth Wunder, A. Purdy, Patricia Morano,Patricia Donovan,
Christopher Santos, Ann Bradshaw
The meeting convened at 2:13pm.
Committee unanimously approved minutes of the January 17,2013 Meeting.
Appointments: Elizabeth Babich—Middle School Math teacher
Communications: A review of the Governor's 351 project was presented and our
Middle School Representative this year was Allison Kondracki. Food Items were sent
over to the Christ the King Food Pantry in December and February. We did a collection
for the February vacation as over 70 families in Mashpee are currently being serviced by
the food pantry.
Old Business: The council reviewed information on the upcoming Live Well Mashpee
Event scheduled for April 13. An informational meeting for the event is scheduled for
February 26, 2013 at 2:00. Cape Cod Sea Camps trip for grade 7 currently has over 70
students registered. Some financial assistance will be needed for some families. The next
PTO meeting is scheduled for February 25, 2013 and the next DC Traveler's Student
meeting is scheduled for March 7. This year 11 students are in need of financial
assistance for this trip, therefore an additional fundraiser"Butter Braid Pastry" was
started. Orders will be taken by students and then delivered on March 7, 2013. This will
help defray the cost of the trips and allow us to help those families that need financial
support. The MMS 2013-2014 Handbook was discussed. Only two changes were
discussed—Library hours, no food or drink in the library area and the fact that Lacrosse
is listed in the handbook as a middle school sport. It is currently not a sport, but we will
be offering skills classes to girl's this year.
New Business
Superintendent Bradshaw provided an update to the council on FY 14 Budget. This
budget will be a maintenance budget. Items such as the addition of a school resource
office and an additional middle school math teacher were discussed. It was brought up to
have just an additional middle school teacher position, this way the use of the person for
more than one subject area could help reduce class sizes across the curriculum.
Other:
Meeting was adjourned at 2:50pm
