SEPAC Meeting Minutes <br /> Mashpee Public Schools <br /> Date: Wednesday, October 9,2013 <br /> Present: 9 <br /> Next meeting: Wednesday, November 13,2013 <br /> 6:30pm at Quashnet school <br /> UNTRODUCTION1 <br /> Director of Special Education, Michele Brady,and Assistant Administrator of Special Education, Nancy <br /> Dugan,facilitated the meeting. Five parents,one school committee member,and Mr. Brian Hyde, <br /> School Superintendent were in attendance.This meeting was held in the Quashnet School Library. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> • Minutes from the May 15, 2013 meeting were accepted. <br /> • There was discussion around planning for the year,specifically about the topics for upcoming <br /> SEPAC meetings.Topics up for discussion were: <br /> • Return visit from Zachary to discuss his transition to college <br /> • Transitions within the Mashpee school system: KC Coombs School to Quashnet; <br /> Quashnet to Mashpee Middle/High School <br /> • ADHD <br /> • Reading strategies: <br /> • Self Advocacy <br /> • The SEPAC will approach the PTO and Indian Education to discuss the possibility of jointly <br /> hosting a presentation on reading strategies since the general education students, Indian <br /> Education students,and all parents can benefit from attending a presentation on this topic. <br /> • Mashpee SEPAC joined the Federation for Children with Special Needs <br /> • There was discussion about creating a Teacher of the Year award for SPED educators.The <br /> logistics of parent voting were considered and methods such as using Survey Monkey, notices in <br /> student backpacks, and a link placed on the SPED website were discussed. <br /> • Mr. Brian Hyde shared comparisons of Mashpee Public Schools in relation to other schools in <br /> the state,academic statistics, and special education in and out of district placements. <br /> • A question and answer period with the Superintendent followed. <br /> • Resource information was passed out and parents discussed online resources,websites, and <br /> support groups. <br />
