The Massachusetts General Laws (Ch. 76, Sec. 2) specify that
a student under sixteen years of age may not be absent more than seven (7) days
within any period of six (6) months.
Students may be excused temporarily from school attendance for the following reasons:
illness or quarantine, bereavement or serious illness in the family, weather so inclement as
to endanger the health of the child, and for observance of major religious holidays. Please
note this does not include elective vacations.
A student's understanding of the importance of day-to-day school work is a major factor in
shaping his/her character. Parents/guardians can help their children by refusing to allow
them to miss school needlessly.
• It is required that all students will be in attendance for all classes for each school day.
• If a student is absent, the parent/guardian is required to phone the school at 508-539-
1526 on the day of the absence by 8:45am to report the absence.
• A note from the parent/guardian indicating the length of absence and reason is required
upon the pupil's return.
• If a student is late to school he/she must report to the office accompanied by a
parent/guardian with a note from the parent/guardian explaining the tardiness prior to
reporting to class.
ll
