h <br /> SEPAC Meeting Minutes <br /> Mashpee Public Schools <br /> Date: Wednesday,November 13,2013 <br /> Present: 8 <br /> Next meeting: Wednesday,January 29, 2014 <br /> 6:30pm at Quashnet School <br /> • s • s <br /> Director of Special Education, Michele Brady,and Assistant Administrator of Special Education, Nancy <br /> Dugan,facilitated the meeting. Two parents, one school committee member,one school adjustment <br /> counselor, and two presenters were in attendance.This meeting was held in the Quashnet School <br /> Library. <br /> � e <br /> • Minutes from the October 9, 2013 meeting were accepted. <br /> • An updated schedule of future SEPAL meetings was distributed with brief discussion about the <br /> presentation topics for the following meetings: <br /> January: Basic Rights for Parents <br /> March: Transition to Post Secondary Options <br /> May: Transition within Mashpee Schools <br /> • There was discussion about Mashpee's current academic standing and the creation of COMPASS <br /> (Cohesive Mashpee Educators Accelerating Student Success).This approximately 70 member <br /> committee consists of many subcommittees comprised of teachers,educational professionals, <br /> and volunteers dedicated to raising the academic standing of Mashpee Public Schools with the <br /> mission of making Mashpee a High-Performing School District. <br /> • Michele Brady will be interviewed by School Superintendent, Brian Hyde on the local access <br /> cable channel to discuss special education in the Mashpee Public Schools. <br /> • Discussion touched upon Mashpee having a 20%SPED rate which is higher than the national <br /> average with the state average of 17%SPED. <br /> • There was brief discussion of McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act and out of <br /> district placements. <br /> • Courtney Matto and Kristin Rignanese from South Bay Mental Health Services gave a <br /> presentation on wrap around services and explained the Child Behavioral Health Initiative.The <br /> presentation provided information on how to obtain services through South Bay Mental Health, <br /> The presentation touched on topics of insurance billing and eligibility through MassHealth, <br />
