KENNETH C. COOMBS SCHOOL COUNCIL
Minutes of Joint Meeting on April 27, 1995
ATTENDANCE:
Present: Unable to attend:
Terrie Cook, Co-Chair Juan Bacigalupi
Nick Feldman, Co-Chair Florine Cragwell
Joy Blackwood Joanne Ferragamo
Beth Coon
Pat DeConto
Carole Dunivan
Sam Myerson
Mary Ryder
Anne Shackett
The meeting commenced at 7:00 P.M.
1 . Chapter I. Trish Parolski reported on the cuts in the Chapter I program
for FY96, indicating that services will be provided to first grade only next
year.
2. Calendar. The Councils discussed proposed changes in next year's school
calendar. We are waiting for Falmouth to release the results of its survey
related to vacation periods.
3. Transportation. The councils reviewed the pros and cons of the suggested
three-tiered transportation/school schedule for next year. The outline was
for K-2,3-6, and 7/8 to all be on different attendance schedules. A number
of difficulties were raised by Mr. Tippo regarding supervision and support
coverage for various grades and activities.
4. We disucssed the possibilities for scheduling parent conferences next
year. Because Time and Learning requirements will require us to eliminate
half days, consensus emerged that perhaps we could schedule two evening
conferences in the fall from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Parents who would be unable to
attend in the evening would be contacted by classroom teachers to schedule
conferences at their mutual convenience.
5. Reorganization. Reorganization will mean that some adjustment might
be made to the pupil/parent handbook. A few of the issues that were raised
as items to be worked on over the summer were sports, discipline, extra-
curricular policies, and a clarification of the dispensing of medicines.
The joint meeting ended at 8:00 P.M. and the Coombs School Council
met briefly to look at the report card revision done by several teachers
at the Coombs School.
