f �W.Quashnet River School Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> February 26, 1998 <br /> Meeting called to order 6:30 pm. <br /> Attendees: Louise Doyle,Lucinda McKay,Anne Shackett,Alyce Shadan,Donna McCaffery,Sandy Reichel, <br /> Christie Morgan,Ellen Bankston,Joe Cuzack,Carol Russell,Ryan Lovely <br /> Public Forum: <br /> Lucinda McKay presented the"River of Readers"reading incentive program <br /> • Map of Mashpee River Corridor including 10 historic sites <br /> • Will last for 40 days,goal for students to read'fc per day <br /> • Books read will be posted as cattails or fish on a river around the school <br /> • Public library connection-bookmarks for new library cards <br /> • Hope to publish in newspaper <br /> • Kickoff at assembly on Monday,Febmary 30. <br /> • Ends Good Friday <br /> Donna McCaffery asked if the school was interested in a state REAPS Grant-Recycling Education Assistance to <br /> Public Schools. She will get more information on it for next meeting. Also discussed the Groundwater Guardian <br /> Aquarian Award. Mrs.Doyle will give the information to Mr.Bailey. <br /> Question on why Citizenship award sponsored by The 99 Restaurant was only for K-4. <br /> Grades 5&6 are recognized through honors and high honors. <br /> Photo for the Yearbook was taken. <br /> Approval of minutes: <br /> Minutes from January 22, 1998 were distributed. <br /> Lucinda McKay moved to approve the minutes. Anne Shackett seconded it. Approved. <br /> FY 99 Budget Update <br /> • School committee budget is presently at$11,900,000 <br /> ➢ '/z time secretary is on hold <br /> ➢ pre first is not included <br /> alternative ed program included in sped budget district wide <br /> • Selectman school budget is$11,100,000 <br /> • Finance committee will give their figure at a meeting March 5 at 7:00 p.m.in town hall <br /> • Councils urged to attend <br /> School Specific PTO <br /> • Include questions about interest in PTO in parent survey <br /> • Get copy of PTO bylaws <br /> • Need to redefine goals <br /> • Need more parent involvement <br /> • Discuss at open house assembly <br /> • Discussion about volunteers <br /> • Make master list of volunteers available to principal <br /> ➢ Need to reexamine policy of no volunteers in child's classroom <br /> ➢ Put on future agenda <br /> • Invite Maureen Colescott and Cheryl Macitire to attend <br /> > Get information on YIPS program—very successful in Falmouth <br /> Still need volunteers for Career Day! <br /> Restructuring Specialist Schedule <br /> • Different ideas were discussed at the Elementary Sub-committee <br />
