Angela Luna seconded it. Unanimously approved.
FY 2000 budget update
There will be a school committee budget meeting on Wednesday,March 17, 7:00 p.m., at the High School, room
B103. There will be a joint school committee/finance committee/selectmen meeting Thursday,March 18, 7:00 p.m.
at town hall. The school committee requests that school council members be present.
The school committee bottom line budget figure is 12.3 million with an overide or 13.1 million without an overide.
Principals have been asked to reduce the budget in$300,000.00 increments from 14.1 million down to 12.6 million.
At this level, there would be impacts next year on proposed programs and positions, athletics, transportation, and
remediation.
Math Night
Math night was very successful with over 200 students and parents attending. There was a discussion about making
it an annual event. Many thanks to Lucinda McKay,Carol Russell, and all the teachers for their hard work and
planning. Some parents wanted to know if a similar reading or science night might be organized. Donna McCaffery
mentioned that the Groundwater Guardian team is putting on a science oriented water festival at the Cape Cod
Community College on April 10. It is open to the public and will feature hands-on activities focusing on groundwater
issues.
Marionette Update
There was a turnout of about 190 for the Marionette production of Cinderella, resulting in a slight profit. It may be
worthwhile to try it again next year.
School Uniforms
A suggestion was made to gather statistics showing the benefits of school uniforms. It was decided to survey
teachers and parents. The school council will finalize the survey at the next meeting, present it to the school
committee for approval, and send it out to parents.
Facility Concerns
Postponed until after the budget was finalized.
SIP
Tabled until next meeting.
Year End Activity
The art show and ice cream social were discussed. It was suggested to ask the staff at the next staff meeting for ideas
and suggestions. A barbecue or picnic/field day was discussed. This should be a parent oriented event which does
not require a lot of teacher planning.
Next meeting April 15, 1999,6:30-8:00.
Lucinda McKay moved to adjourn the meeting. Donna McCaffery seconded it. Unanimously approved.
The meeting;was adjourned at 8: 15pm
