Louise Doyle seconded it Approved. <br /> FY 99 Budget Update <br /> • School committee budget cut from$11,900,000 to$11,500,000 <br /> • Finance committee asked them to go to$11,100,000 <br /> • Cut$450,286 <br /> • Included some programs <br /> • 43 line items cut and prioritized <br /> • High school athletics could be cut$25,000 <br /> • All high school athletics may be cut$86,573 <br /> • Other possible cuts: <br /> • Instrumental Music <br /> • Enrichment programs: Future Problem solvers,Art History,Odyssey of the Mind <br /> • Selectman school budget is$11,100,000 <br /> • Budget meeting between finance committee and selectmen Monday night at 7:00 at town <br /> • School Committee will present budget of $11,700,000 <br /> • School committee feels an ovende would be very risky. Will probably be necessary next year. <br /> • Councils urged to attend <br /> • Discussion on Cape Cod Collaborative calling services <br /> • $3,600/year for four schools to increase to$6,000 next year <br /> • may become principal's job <br /> • competition for subs between principals and collaborative services <br /> • not a good sub list <br /> School Mission Statement <br /> • Suggestion to form a subcommittee <br /> • Decided to bring ideas to next council meeting for discussion <br /> • Ask for staff input due by March 27 <br /> Looping <br /> • Handouts on looping distributed <br /> • Vermont/Attleboro looping discussed <br /> • Good school climate <br /> • Teachers liked concept <br /> • Worked as a team <br /> • Don't lose a month to review <br /> • Easier budget <br /> • Professional library <br /> • Lower retention rate <br /> • River school has 40 children on the retention list, 13 in grade 6 <br /> • Last year students were sent to summer school <br /> • 5100/course needs to be paid upfront <br />
