Ir - A: Quashnet River School Council Meeting Minutes April 15, 1999 Meeting called to order 6:30 p.m. Attendees: Sandy Reichel,Angela Luna,Donna McCaffery,Lucinda McKay, Joe Cusack,Louise Doyle Public Forum: No one spoke at public forum. Approval of minutes: Lucind McKay moved to accept the minutes from March 16,1999. Joe Cusack seconded it. Unanimously approved. FY 2000 budget update There will be an article on the town meeting warrant,Monday,May 3 1999 for a proposition 2 'h overide of just over a million dollars to fund the schools. The town ballot election will be Saturday,May 8, 1999. It is important to get the word out to parents to go and vote. School Uniforms A sample parent/teacher survey on school uniforms was distributed and discussed. Sandy Reichel will add a black line drawing of a uniform. Mrs.Doyle will put a presentation of the survey to the school committee on the next school committee meeting agenda,Wednesday,May 5, 1999. { School Improvement Plan Items still needing to be implemented were discussed. Communication goal Establishing a school website will be carried over to the 1999/2000 school improvement plant. Use of the school cable channel is ongoing. It was suggested to publicize events that will be on the school cable channel on the calendar and newsletter as much as possible. Often it is not known when events will be shown. Character development goal There was a clarification of the policy for discipline reports being mailed home to parents. This is only done for major infractions. It was decided to continue to give rewards for positive behavior. There was a discussion about the possibility of getting bumper stickers made for this purpose. Identity goal • School specific PTO. It was generally agreed that this would be a good idea. • School newspaper-this would require an incredible amount of time and work and would require a stipend to be done properly. • School store-this has been done and is working very well. • School songs-progress is being made on school songs and will continue • New signs-signs on Old Barnstable Rd. still need to be changed. Donna McCaffery will call Greg Taylor to see if this can be done. • Titles and authors on the murals-Sandy Reichel volunteered to add book titles and author's names, as well as the school motto on the logo,to the painted murals. Reading goal A family reading/literature night will be planned for next year. School Council Terms There was a discussion of the terms of present school council members. Presently. members are serving a two year term that will end in June. Further discussion on this issue will be put on the agenda for the Mav council meeting. Year End Activity Kindergarten-Gra de 3 are overloaded with activities for the last few months of schcoi. The art show and ice cream social will take place in May.
