2010-2011 Quashnet School Council <br /> Minutes <br /> ' Meeting held on Thursday, November 4, 2010-3:15 PM to 4:15 PM <br /> Quashnet School Conference Room <br /> Present: Patricia DeBoer(Principal), Jackie Rastallis (Teacher), Cary Marshall (Teacher), <br /> Barbara Cotton (Parent), Jack Phelan (Community Member) <br /> Absent: Jane Dolan (Parent) <br /> Note: Parent Maria Cortez has volunteered to fill the one year remaining on the three-year <br /> term of parent Calean LaCroix, a parent who resigned from the Council due to work obligations. <br /> Maria was unable to be at today's meeting but has received a packet with all 2010-2011 Quashnet <br /> School Council information. <br /> Aoenda/Minutes <br /> 1. Sharina/Update—Friends of Mashpee Public School"arbara Cotton <br /> Barbara shared the philosophy of the group and its goals. The members want be informed so that they can <br /> then share clear and accurate information with our parent population. Parents should not primarily rely on <br /> articles that appear in the Mashpee Enterprise as their source for school information. The "Friends" group <br /> wants to be able to help parents better understand issues, decisions, and the impact thereof. They are also <br /> working to link all four schools together and to develop a network that will facilitate positively promoting the <br /> schools and helping to get more people actively involved. (mpsfriends@yahoo.com) <br /> 2. 2010-2011 Quashnet School Improvement Plan 1SIP"oals/Format <br /> Council members approve of the proposed one-page color-coded format for the 2010-2011 School <br /> Improvement Plan. Additions to the draft are listed below. The next step will be to gather staff input on our <br /> proposed 2010-2011 School Improvement Plan. <br /> Proposed additions: <br /> Goal#3--Include specific reference to the Falcon Five under"Actions" <br /> Goal#3—Under"Actions"—Emergency Preparedness section—Add: Meeting statewide standards <br /> Goal#3—"Measurement of Progress" section <br /> Add: Fewer discipline referrals <br /> Track the number of"Right Choice"tickets issued <br /> Data from Anti-Bullying Plan surveys—Staff, Students, Parents <br /> Goal#4-2Measurement of Progress" section <br /> Add: Data from annual measurement of student BMIs <br /> Inner Resilience Rubric—Compare baseline to end-of-year <br /> Recess Walking Club—Track number of participants and distances walked <br /> 3. PersonneUProaram Plannina FY12 <br /> We realize that the budget picture for FYI looks bleak (level-funded?). <br /> 1. Based on the current population in grade 2 at the K.C.Coombs School, an additional teacher <br /> will be needed at the third grade level for SY11-12. <br /> 2. We are proposing having a full time Instructional Technology/Librarian position for the Quashnet <br /> School for SY11-12. Note: We currently have a half-time librarian. <br /> 3. We will carefully look at our special education population and the needs thereof for SY11-12. We <br /> may need to add an additional special education teacher to provide pull-out academic services to <br /> fifth and sixth graders and to support inclusion learning needs in all grade levels. <br /> 4. Other <br /> Ann Bradshaw confirmed that School Council members do not need to complete the State of <br /> Massachusetts ethics training. <br /> Good luck to Council member Jack Phelan on his upcoming triathlon on November 13th <br /> Please email me with any feedback or suggestions. <br /> Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
