MASHPEE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING COMMITTEE
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19 , 1996
HIGH SCHOOL SITE
Members Present : Paul Griffin, Joe Polito, Bill Martiros, Merry
Sue Ahlgren, Steve Greelish, Peter Dinizio
Also Present : Joel Seeley, Tom Wren, John Williams, Mike
Pietrowski , Mike Kirwin from CCR
Meeting convened at 4 : 13 p.m.
CHANGE ORDER
To convert classrooms to superintendent office space, for
$63 , 000 .
** Paul made a motion to forward to the Selectmen for their
approval change order, not to exceed $65 ,000, to convert
classroom space to Superintendent office space . Joe
seconded the motion.
Discussion:
Paul explained this first came back from Stone at $85 ,000 and
they got it down to $65 , 000 . It doesn't have to be done by Sept.
1st, Dr. DeMoura can remain in the trailers at town hall .
Paul still thinks the prices are too high. He suggested tapping
it off and let Alan Scott shop it out to other electrical and
cooling contractors . The drywall is not a problem. RAC and
Griffin Electric prices are outrageous. However, the cost to put
the Superintendent someplace else for 5 years is still more than
this. There is also the possibility this will be reimbursable.
Paul suggests asking the Selectmen for approval , not to exceed
$65 , 000 . Alan Scott could then try to shop it out and issue a
change directive .
Steve suggested leaving the AC/air handling piece out of it
totally. When the building is complete, have someone fit 3 self
contained units in there. It wouldn' t cost more than $10 , 000 for
that.
Paul said we cannot spend over $10 , 000 without going through
Stone.
Steve has a real problem with $65 , 000.
Paul said we don't have a better number.
Peter said he received an estimate for built out rental space for
$13 per square foot. There is an added cost of re-configuring
the superintendent space back to classroom space after 5 years .
Paul said Dr. DeMoura needs 2 , 000 square feet of useable space,
which means he 'll really need 2 ,400 square feet.
That is $24 , 700 per year, including utilities . For 5 years it ' s
over $125 , 000.
Steve suggested we wait until the contractor clears the site and
then do the work.
Joe asked what would happen to reimbursement with that method?
1
