Vote - unanimous in favor. Shellfish Constable's Report: Last month, we got 700 remote set bags of oyster seed from the ARC hatchery and put them in the trays in the Mashpee River. We are scheduled to get 500 more on Thursday. The DPW supplied a dump truck and driver to pick up he bags from the hatchery. In addition to our Carolina Skiff, the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's Natural Resources Department helped with their Carolina Skiff. We have 4.1 million quahog seed in the Town upwellers at a Little River. The seed is growing very well due to the presence of some of the best species of phytoplankton for food. Barnstable County is funding 200 of the oyster bags and an additional 172,000 quahog seed. AmeriCorps Cape Cod is helping with tray construction and seed. . Santuit Pond had a surface film of blue-green algae at the landing and the counts in water samples collected by the Mass. Dept. of Public Health were high enough (>70,000 cells/ml) that warnings advising people not to swim in the pond were posted at times last month. This month, the counts are low and the warnings have been removed. No toxin has been detected. The rest of the pond averaged about a meter visibility as it did last year. This is twice the average visibility (-0.5 meter) in the year before the SolarBee water circulators were installed. The Friends of Santuit Pond are taking weekly Secchi disk visibility readings throughout the pond. Old Business: Shellfish Aquaculture Regulations: Nothing new. Shellfish Propagation: An application for $114.490 for oyster and quahog seeding again next year has been submitted to the Community Preservation Committee. It will be considered at their July 16 meeting. If approved, it will go to the October Town meeting for a vote. We would purchase 2,000 remote set bags of oyster seed and 6 million quahog seed again in 2014. Copies of the application were distributed to the Commissioners. Sponge Fouling: Nothing new. Waciuoit Bay Town Line: Nothing new.
