Vote— unanimous in favor.
Shellfish Constable's Report: The Mashpee River and Shoestring Bay down to
Punkhorn Point is scheduled to be closed to shellfishing by the DMF on April 1 as
usual. The application for $95,140 for quahog seed and propagation gear for
Great River was approved by the Community Preservation Committee (CPC).
Final approval would be by vote of Town Meeting on May 6. An appeal has been
filed with DEP by the opponents of Richard Cook's new shellfish aquaculture site.
Old Business:
Shellfish Aquaculture Regulations: Nothing new.
Shellfish Propagation: The plan for 2013 is the same as last year with an
additional 1,000 remote set oyster bags for the Mashpee River, and 6 million
quahog seed for Great River if the CPC funding is approved at Town Meeting.
Sponge Fouling: Nothing new.
Waauoit Bay Town Line: Nothing new.
Additional Topics: Invasive fresh water clams: What can we do about them now
that they are here? York— I have signs from the state Lakes and Ponds Program
to post at boat landings that say "Stop the spread of nuisance aquatic plants and
animals. Help protect our lakes and ponds. Remove all plants and animals from
boat, trailer, anchors, fishing gear and dive gear. Flush engines and dispose of
bait, bilge water and bait bucket water on land away from shore. Never release
any plant or animal into a body of water unless it came out of that body of water.
Dispose of all foreign matter far from water!"
Can they spread to salt water? York— no.
08:30 PM - Adjournment
Respectfully submitted,
Richard York, Shellfish Commission Secretary
