Appointment; members; associate members . <br /> The Board of Selectmen shall appoint three members of the Board of <br /> Appeals. One shall be a member of the Planning Board, one shall be a member <br /> of the Zoning Board of Appeals , and the third shall be the Director of Public <br /> Works . The Board of Selectmen shall also appoint three or more associate <br /> members to sit on the Board in case of the absence, inability to act or <br /> interest on the part of a member thereof , or in the event of a vacancy on said <br /> board until said vacancy is filled. <br /> Section 5. 56. Term of office; removal; vacancy. <br /> The initial. appointment by the Board of Selectmen for regular and <br /> associate members shall provide for one member to serve for one year, one <br /> member to serve for two years, and one member to serve for three years. <br /> Thereafter, upon the expiration of the term, each member shall be appointed <br /> for a three year term. Any member or associate member may be removed for <br /> cause by the Board of Selectmen upon written charges and after a public <br /> hearing. Vacancies, as they occur , shall be filled for the unexpired term in <br /> the same manner as in the case of original appointments . <br /> Section 5. 57. Organization; chairman; clerk. <br /> The Board of Appeals shall elect annually a chairman and clerk from <br /> its own members. The election shall take place at the first meeting of the <br /> Board after July lst of each year. The chairman shall have the power to <br /> designate associate members to sit on the Board as needed. <br /> Section 5. 58. Powers. <br />
