Explanation: This article would authorize the Board of Selectmen to purchase a 6,973 <br /> square foot parcel of land on Monomoscoy Island having approximately 150 feet of <br /> frontage on the east side of Hamblin's Pond. The Harbormaster would like to use the <br /> land to develop a small water access area for shellfishermen and carry-in boats. The <br /> purchase would use Land Bank funds. <br /> ARTICLE 26 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Board of Selectmen to grant a temporary <br /> two year easement to the United States of America over that parcel of conservation land <br /> known as the Quashnet Cranberry Bog, comprised of 27.22 acres more or less and <br /> shown on Mashpee Assessors Map 43, Block 2, Lot 0, in the form as approved by the <br /> Board of Selectmen on September 28, 1998 in the document entitled Department of the <br /> Army Offer to Sell Easement and accepted by the United States of America on <br /> 1 September 29, 1998, and further to authorize the Board of Selectmen to petition the <br /> J , <br /> General Court for special legislation which may be necessary authorize the granting of <br /> said temporary easement, or take any other action relating thereto. 4 <br /> Submitted by the Conservation Commission : <br /> and Board of Selectmen <br /> Explanation: This article is necessary to approve the temporary restrictive easement <br /> ;3e <br /> approved by the Board of Selectmen which provides that the Town will not cultivate <br /> cranberries for a period of two years on the Quashnet Cranberry Bog where <br /> groundwater contamination emanating from the Massachusetts Military Reservation has <br /> been found, in exchange for compensation to be paid by the United States government <br /> to the Town for the loss of these crops. <br /> ARTICLE 27 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to grant an easement to the United States of America over <br /> that parcel of Conservation land known as the Quashnet Cranberry Bog, comprised of <br /> 27.22 acres more or less and shown on Mashpee Assessors Map 43, Block 2, Lot 0 for <br /> the purpose of constructing and operating a water treatment facility for a term deemed <br /> acceptable to the Board of Selectmen, and to authorize the Board of Selectmen to <br /> petition the General Court for special legislation which may be necessary to authorize j <br /> the granting of said easement; or take any other action relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Conservation Commission <br /> and the Board of Selectmen <br /> Explanation: This article would grant an easement to the U.S. government to <br /> construct and operate a water treatment facility on town land at the Quashnet <br /> Cranberry Bog. The purpose of the facility is to remediate EDB pollution of the bog <br /> from the Massachusetts Military Reservation. <br /> 23 <br />
