Discussion insued between the Board and Mr. ' Mendleson relative
to the several special permits he had previously received. There
appeared to be some misunderstanding on theDpart of Mr. Mendleson
as to what he was presently allowed to do and this is the reason
why he brought the present application for relief to the Board:as
he was seeking to secure permission to sell and rent electronic
equipment to consumers at retail. Discussion insued relative to
available parking and how many vehicles and trailers the applicant
used in his business and where they were parked. Mr. Mendleson
did not feel that there would be any problem with parking. No one
spoke either in favor or in opposition to the application. The
Board told Mr. Mendleson that the matter would be taken under advise-
ment and that he would be notified.
The Board met again on November 21, 1984 and the subject
matter of the petition of Alan Industries, Inc. was discussed.
Mr. Makunas pointed out to the Board Members that there was very
limited parking available at the site and that Mr. Mendleson had
indicated that he had a number of trucks, trailers and equipment
which he parked on the site. Mr. Makunas further indicated that
the Board in its prior decision had expressly forbid the application
from conducting any retail sales on the premises because of the
fact that Mr. Mendleson had sold part of his business to Margo
Wharton who relocated it to another store on the Rotary. He further
indicated that there was no on-site parking available to the applicant
which would satisfy the Zoning requirement for off-street parking
and that this played a role in the previous decision to take away
the ability of the applicant to conduct a retail business.
The Board Members discussed the problem of off-street parking
on the Rotary Traffic Circle where the applicants place of business
is located and all agreed that a dangerous situation would occur
if retail sales and rentals were permitted.
