B., <br /> C., F. and G. of the Zoning By-laws for a free standing sign and a sign affixed to the <br /> exterior of a restaurant building on property located in a C-1 zoning district at 8 Ryan's <br /> Way (Map 67, Block 75)Mashpee, MA. <br /> Members present: E. Govoni, J. Regan, C. Hawver, K. Marsters <br /> Randy Bartlett of Barlo Signs represented the applicant and informed the Board that the <br /> Design Review Committee had rejected the sign design proposed and that he was willing <br /> to make a concession to a smaller standing sign -- 5' x 7'6" with poles to be determined to <br /> eliminate the thick pylon presented. Mr. Govoni said the Design Review Committee <br /> wants to see a mock-up of the sign on the site to determine size and placement. He <br /> invited members of the audience to review the designs. <br /> Mr. Govoni explained that the illumination would show only on the lettering. Mr. Bartlett <br /> said they would make the following concessions: reduce the size of the sign, eliminate the <br /> marquee and reduce the height to 7'. There was discussion of the horseshoe in the sign <br /> design and it was determined that this was a trademark of the restaurant chain. Anna <br /> Tanneyhill, an abutter, questioned the hours of operation and was told that the sign would <br /> be on during hours of operation. Mr. Govoni said the colors would be changed to gray <br /> and cranberry. <br /> David McNamara of the Sandpiper Village Association questioned the signage and <br /> thought there would only be signs on the side of the building. He asked for locations of <br /> other 99 restaurants with similar signing and Mr. Bartlett said North Dartmouth. Mr. <br /> McNamara said the site was filled with construction equipment. <br /> Mr. Bartlett said that the By-law allows 40 square feet and he planned to conform to this. <br /> Mr. Govoni read a letter from Carla J. Roy, agent for Sandpiper Village Condominium <br /> Trust, objecting to the sign designs and building equipment on the road. There was <br /> discussion of lighting and signage of other restaurants in the area. Mr. Bartlett said the <br /> signing would be similar to other signs in Town and that he was making more concessions <br /> in reducing the size and changing the design. Mr. Govoni explained that Mashpee was <br /> trying to control the look of the Town. Mr. Marsters said he preferred ground fighting on <br /> signs. Tom Sullivan, a resident of Carleton Drive, spoke in favor of the signage. <br /> Mr. Barlett asked to discuss the signage on the building. Mr. Regan said the Town <br /> preferred the Stop and Shop signing which Mr. Bartlett said was a back-lit neon sign <br /> which is permissible by the By-laws. Mr. Regan said that the Design Review Committee <br /> would still have to approve the signage. Ms. Roy said the residents of Sandpiper Village <br /> thought the signage should be low key and subtle. Mr. Sullivan said people should be able <br /> to see it from the rotary. <br /> Mr. Govoni said he could not split the Special Permit to approve the building sign only <br /> since it had been applied for with the standing sign. <br />
