Opening - Maureen opened the meeting at the Town Hall at 6:40 PM. <br /> I I Secretary's Report - <br /> Linda made a motion to approve the Minutes of August 1, 1995. Maureen seconded. <br /> All were in favor. Motion passed. <br /> III. Communications - <br /> 1. Open Meeting Law Update - The town attorney provided all boards with open meeting <br /> law changes including reasons for executive session meetings. Maureen read these over. <br /> 2. Solutions Local - We will be looking for the Fall '95 issue. Gus has worked with Todd <br /> Souza and other members on this Newsletter. At our last Mashpee Human Service <br /> Coalition meeting Janice Walford (Mashpee Enterprise) was going to look into possible <br /> circulation through the Enterprise. <br /> IV Reports - <br /> A. Old Business <br /> 1. Youth Council/Youth Commission <br /> Youth Council - Gus has been meeting informally with a number of Mashpee <br /> teens. They meet regularly and are committed to addressing and meeting youth <br /> programming needs in our town including a skateboard recreation area, coffee <br /> house and teen center. The Advisory Council suggested this group of youths be <br /> considered a sub-committee of the Leisure Service Advisory Council. <br /> Youth Commission - The Youth Commission has not shown a commitment to <br /> operate. Gus and the Advisory Council discussed and decided to send a memo to Bob <br /> Whritenour concerning disbanding this group. <br /> 2. Human Services - The Mashpee group will call itself The Mashpee Human <br /> Service Coalition. The next meeting will be September 27. B.J. Weiss from <br /> Barnstable County Human Services will begin to facilitate these meetings. This <br /> will include focusing the group and their agenda. The Neighborhood Coalition has <br /> finished the door-to-door survey assessment component of the grant the Town will <br /> be receiving. The next meeting will be 9/13/95 at Middle School at 7:00 PM. B.J. <br /> Weiss is the facilitator and is directing all procedures for this grant. <br /> A directory/referral guide has been a suggested need for the citizens of Mashpee. <br /> Listing Human-Community Service providers available to them. This would be <br /> ideal for the coalition to put together. The Leisure Service Advisory Council will <br /> also seek Selecmen support on further Human Service proposals. <br /> 3. Together We Can - Gus has re-established the Steering Committee and under <br /> TWC will be applying for a grant through the Partnership to Reduce Substance <br /> Abuse. The next meeting is September 20th (Middle School 7 - 9 PM). <br />
