FEB _ 1998 D
Hoyts Mashpee Cinemas SELECTMEN'S OFFICE
11 Steeple Street
Mashpee, MA 02649
Board Of Selectman
Town of Mashpee
Great Neck Road
Mashpee, MA 02649
February 5, 1998
To Whom It May Concern,
I'd like to relate to you my recent experience with the Mashpee Fire Department.
On Thursday evening, January 29, I smelled what I thought was natural gas in
one of the auditoriums. Although I wasn't sure, I called the MFD and asked if they
would come over and check it out. Within five minutes a full complement of
personnel arrived with every piece of equipment imaginable. They inspected the
auditorium, the projection booth, and the rooftop heating unit. They did find a
leak; they then called the Colonial Gas Company (as is procedure), and
determined that the auditorium should be closed. They shut down the gas supply
and electrical connections to the unit. On top.of this, they managed to do it
without alarming any of the patrons who were sitting in the auditorium.
While this was happening, a lieutenant and Chief Baker showed up to see how
things were progressing. They were concerned about a possible gas leak and what
could be a potentially serious problem due to the size of our building and the
number of patrons inside.
I cannot stress enough how fortunate we are in Mashpee to have our Fire
Department. From the moment they arrived they were professional and in control
of the situation. I can't imagine how it could have been handled better.
Sincerel ,
H JeineI
Manager
cc: Mashpee Fire Department
Mashpee Enterprise
jJ
