The initial request
of$14,458,260 has been reduced by $369,362.
This is truly a bottom line budget explained Mrs. Cook who expressed concern
with respect to additional budget uncertainties that are not contained in the
revised budget request of$14,088,892.
The budget proposal does not include the potential rise in budget salaries and
benefits. Currently, the School Department is negotiating with all collective
bargaining units. Additional contracts include; Mashpee teachers, high school
custodial service and grounds maintenance. The budget does not reflect cola,
non-union contracts, the superintendents wage, food services, and the potential
increase in special education.
William C. MacDonald, interim superintendent also suggested the district
consider hiring a business manager. The savings in this position would makeup
for the salary in which it would demand explained Mr. MacDonald.
Discussion followed with regards to projected school enrollment. As of
October 1, 1998, there are 2,132 students enrolled in Mashpee schools.
An increase of approximately 160 students over last fiscal year.
