Board of Selectmen
Minutes
June 17, 2002
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Richard York—Request for 10-Year Steffi
Richard York, Shellfish Constable was present to request the Board place
him at the 10 year step as specified in his contract. Mr. York discussed his
employment in support of such in a memorandum addressed to the Board
of Selectmen dated June 10, 2002. Mr. York has been employed full-time
year round continuously since April, 1992.
Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to place Richard H York,Jr.
at the 10 year step as specified in his administrative contract.
Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
COMMUNICATIONS AND CORRESPONDENCE:
Correspondence from Pirate's Cove Beach Association:
Several residents of Pirate's Cove were present to discuss the status and
apparent lack of progress in accomplishing the planned dredging activity.
Residents voiced concern with respect to diminished property values and
unfavorable marsh odors.
Selectman liaison to the Waterways Commission, George Green indicated
that the lack of progress is associated to differentials contained in data and
statistics. The issue was prioritized by the Selectmen. The Board agreed
to develop an action plan, and request the Waterways Commission to
respond to this concern at the next scheduled Selectmen's Meeting.
Area resident Edward Baker noted that the residents have requested
dredging since 1987. There is a problem with the existing marsh structure
in the upper river. Mr. Baker suggested that the river be dredged to the
beach during the interim, and that the marsh be considered for future
restoration.
Consulting Services—Federal Recognition:
The Selectmen agreed to form a subcommittee comprised of two members
of the Board, Selectman Green and Selectman Leveille to conference via
telephone with Kay Davis, consultant for the purpose of discussing the
Federal Recognition/Sovereign Nation issue in public forum.
