2
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
September 23, 2002
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Finance Committee:
Finance Committee members; Carlton Meredith, Jeffrey Arnold, Kathleen
Lynch, Theresa Cook, James Morgan and Frederick Blythe were present
to discuss several Town Meeting articles contained in the warrant of
October 7, 2002 with members of the Board of Selectmen.
The following articles were reviewed jointly;
Article#2: FY03 Capital Budget Items
Fire Department - Fire Chief's Vehicle: CIP Request: $35,000
BOS Recommend: $35,000—FC Recommend: $35,000
Fire Department -Deputy Chief's Vehicle: CIP Request: $35,000
BOS Recommend: $35,000—FC Recommend: 0
Fire Chief George Baker presented comments and justification in support
of the above two referenced vehicles. Both vehicles were noted to have
mileage in excess of 80,000 miles. Repair needs and limited carrying
capacity issues were cited. It was noted that the deputy's vehicle was
previously deferred from the CIP program. To defer either vehicle to the
coming year would create a domino effect on the department's plan for the
replacement of administrative vehicles.
The Finance Committee recommended that the above referenced
purchases be staggered to alleviate major replacement expenditures. It
was agreed that the Finance Committee would meet with the Fire Chief to
further review the vehicle request justification and potential for alternate
use of vehicles.
i
