3 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> • Minutes <br /> April 11, 2005 <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Acceptance of Retirement—Department of Public Works: <br /> Communication was received from Larry Dove regarding his retirement as <br /> Foreman of the Department of Public Works effective August 24, 2005. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Green to accept with regret,the <br /> retirement of Larry Dove from the DPW. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Community Preservation Coalition—Dorrie Pizzella: <br /> Dome Pizzella gave an in-depth presentation to the Board of Selectmen <br /> regarding the implementation of the Community Preservation Act. An <br /> article appears on the May Town Meeting warrant regarding the creation <br /> • of a Community Preservation Committee that would be effective after the <br /> passage by ballot of the Community Preservation Act. <br /> The CPA is a new tool to help communities preserve open space and <br /> historic sites, and create affordable housing and recreational facilities. <br /> The CPA allows participating cities and towns to adopt a real estate tax <br /> surcharge up to 3%to fund three key community purposes; open space, <br /> historic preservation and community housing. Additional information <br /> may be found on the website www.communitvpreservation.org. <br /> The Committee shall consist of(9)voting members; one member of the <br /> Conservation Commission, one member of the Historical Commission, <br /> one member of the Planning Board, one member of the Board of <br /> Selectmen acting as Park Commissioners, one member of the Mashpee <br /> Housing Authority, and four at-large members appointed by the Board of <br /> Selectmen. <br />
