Mr. Domas: May I continue?
Pauline: Yes.
Mr. Domas: This is the gap here, lie will fill in that gap. This green box here
at one time there was a cabana (shows location) and there is still the concrete re-
mains of it. At one time, there must have been a road (and old plans do show it) for
cars to park on the barrier beach.
Pauline: I can show you a picture of it. '
Mr. Domas: They must have (to place this fill here -- this parking lot) at one time
brought in a clay material. In this particular area, you can tell there is that
yellow-orange clay material and no beach vegetation is growing there now. We are
going to place Rugosa Rose four feet on center in that one area because this is some-
what harder to plant. We will try to get some growth going in that area.
Mr. Henniaan: What about this area in here?
good
Mr. Domas: There is pretty growth allthe way up to 13+00 and there is some sparse
growth in here. We docall for some beach vegetation, from station 13+00 on to station
28+00 in conjunction with sand pits. I tried to denote the red to sand pits and the
Preen to denote the vegetation. Starting at station 16 +00, which is 1600 feet out
from the property line, -- here we move into the beach. Unlike the other area where
we do have an established dune line with some elevation, here it is totally open and
wash overs occur every year practically. We are going to develop two rows of sand
fencing with the orientation as roughly as shown. Bryan developed that because he
was looking at the wind profile. There is a northwest, southeast wind. The various
orientations of the sand fencing are to catch the sand blowing in those predominant
directions.
Pauline: I know, we were down there with him.
".r. Domas: So, we have two rows of sand fencing. One 30 feet off the base line and
another 100 feet off the base line which would form some large back-shore dunes. In
conjunction with that in Sta. 13100 to Sta. 28+00, we are going to plant American
beach grass and Rosa Rugosa. American beach grass will be 18 inches on center and we
will be planting Rosa Rugosa 8 feet on center (it is not noted on the stabilization
map). We are trying to establish some growth here. The reason that we are doing
that in March is that it would give a good six or eight month growing season that re-
establish and to collect some sand and form some elevation before the 1981-82 winter
season.
Cha.rli.e: That last time I was down there was a month or a month and a half or so I
guess, but I noticed on this back shore that there is an erosion taking place on the
creek side. It is so predominant right where this dune has shifted out.
Mr. ;;enniran: Thpt is the reason for concentration here.
Fir.. Domas: The channel narrows here and the same amount of water has to get through
so there tends to be a little more velocity in there. So that is basically the plan.
In Phase II in March, following the pipntinlg of the beach vegetation and the sand
fencing„ once again, we will fertilize the entire beach including the newly planted.
