W Town of'Mashpee �Iistoricc�l �'oYnx�iission 1 A 16 Great Neck Road, North. .y- Mashpee, MA 02649 Telephone - (508) 539-1438 MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMMISSION Minutes of Meeting— November 17, 2008 The Town of Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order at the Archives Building at 1'0:10AM on Monday, November 17, 2008. Chairperson, Lee Gurney presided. Commissioners Present: Rosemary Burns, Lee Gurney, Frank Lord, and Gail Slattery. Commissioners Absent: Sunny Merritt and Gordon Peters. Rosemary made a motion, and it was seconded, that we accept the Minutes of the December 3, 2007, meeting. We reviewed our Budget for 2009 fiscal year, and it is good shape. Ongoing Projects: Frank Lord informed the Commissioners that he had made a PowerPoint slide presentation on the Mashpee One-Room Schoolhouse to Brian Hyde's Mashpee History class at the high school. The presentation was attended by the Superintendent, two classes of Mashpee students, and three members of the community. Brian Blute's class at the High School will be making two,additional benches and a sign for the outside of the school house building. Frank is hoping to have the school house open in early June of 2009 for tours by 3rd grade students. The tours will take place at both the Mashpee Archives building and at the schoolhouse, making it possible for the students to hear a brief history of Mashpee at the Archives; as well as the history of the one-room schoolhouse while touring that building. Both Frank and Rosemary have been working on PowerPoint presentations which may make useful programs for the schoolhouse tours. Rosemary Burns has published a new booklet entitled, The History of New Seabury by the Sea. The book was written to raise funds for Save Popponesset Bay. She is also cataloging a collection of memorabilia of Frank Hicks.
