Mr. Cannata, the proprietor of Wildfire Brick Oven Pizza in
Mashpee indicated he was displaying"sandwich-board"signage at his place of business and a DPW
worker took the sign away this past weekend. It is his understanding that per the Board of Selectmen this
type of signage is not allowed. Mr. Cannata asked how small businesses are able to use this type of
signage to maximize their business profit. To remain fair, Mr. Cannata suggested the Board consider
signage of a certain size to be allowed during business hours only to help small companies to stay in
business and to attract customers. Mr. Cannata respectfully requested the Board reconsider the use of
small business signage with boundaries. In response the Board of Selectmen agreed to re-address the
matter of signage, and possibly with boundaries at the next scheduled meeting.
In other matters Mr. Cannata discussed his interest in the preservation of natural resources and talked in-
depth with regards to the abuse of the John's Pond Beach. The Town of Mashpee permits the purchase of
one day passes to non-residents. It was explained this open door policy has created a tremendous abuse of
the property. This includes trash left on the beach, loud music, and abuse of jet skis. It was highly
recommended the Board eliminate the day pass program.
It was agreed the Town Manager would further review this matter directly with applicable Department
Heads and make a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen.
