TOWN OF MASHPEE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMMITTEE MINU'T'ES
NOVEM 3ER 13, 2008
Members present: Bob Wooldridge, Beverly Wooldridge, William Dundon, Merton Sapers,
Charles Maintanis, Marilyn Farren, Trish Parolski, Terrie Cook, Selectmen Liaison.
Absent: Patricia Lugo
Chairman Bob Wooldridge called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.
The Minutes of 9/11108 were moved, seconded, and approved as amended.
Planning & Construction Committee Activities: Trish Parolski reported on the last meeting
October 30th. They are wrapping up the new fire station. Town meeting approved hiring two
employees starting in January 2009. They have selected the low bidder from New Bedford for
the Library Project. The demolition of the old library has not started. The temporary library
seems to be working well for people.
Traffic and Parking at South Cape Village: Bob attended the Planning Board Committee
meeting and participated in the discussion to make Joy Street a regular street open to traffic. No
public hearing has been set yet. There is talk of taking the bricks out, and making it one-way
traffic from Roche Brothers to Commercial St. The net loss of handicap spaces will be three,
and the net gain will be two. The handicap spaces in some cases are too far from some stores.
Bob will send a Memo to the Planning Board re: the change of traffic pattern, and he will also
follow up with Tom Fudala.
There is also some modifications being planned to make more room in front of Roche Bros. A
new pizza restaurant is going in soon, and the parking seems inadequate. You will have to walk
two blocks from the parking lot to pick up your pizza. The engineer has been told to contact
ADA.
Bob spoke to Brian Kehrl from the Mashpee Enterprise about our issues and options. We can
take our grievances to the Mass. Office of Disabilities, or we can try and change the By-Laws to
get representation on the Town's Boards, i.e., Plan/Design Review, Planning Board,ZBA, etc.
Town Meeting Warrants for the Blind: There were audio tapes of the warrants made available
to the public at the Town Hall, Senior Center, and Library for this past Town Meeting. Three
tapes were checked out by residents. The Audible Ledger has lost their funding from the State to
continue offering services. The Ledger probably will be able to support the program for the May
Town meeting, but other arrangements will need to be made in the future to help the blind. Bob
received a call from Barbara Notarius, the President of the Friends of the Mashpee Library. She
is writing a grant for hearing impaired equipment.
Beach Access/DPW and Boy Scouts: Bob reported that several contacts were made with high
school seniors on October 8, 2008, and there is interest in helping. Nothing has materialized to
date. The DPW has promised to do something over the winter. Charlie would like to see the
