P.O.Box 814
Mashpee,MA 02649
April 1 ,2013
To the Selectmen of the great Town of Mashpee:
We wish tothank you for all your efforts, kindness and compassion that you put into
the Dedication of the Five Fallen Heroes of Mashpee. Not granting to be "'thatH
parent, but waling this journey, it is a very humbling and bitte'reet path. with
people life you on this journey, we are able to take those steps. It is beyond
comforting, knowing of the compassion that is out there for the Gold Star families.
Our gratitude goes beyond the Dedication. It was in Mashpee that Eric, at the tender
age of ten months, experienced the joy of Great River with his grandparents. The
love of this estuary grew within him. Memories were created here as Eric grew to
adulthood. He shared this "'God's country"' with all his friends from elementary
school, right through to college. This was his place of solace. This is our place of
solace, too, on our last moments together, before he gathered his squadron for his
final deployment, Eric assured us with his crooked, handsome smile, that he would
be corning' home the following summer to revamp and take in God's beauty. It was
in Mashpee that he found such peace.
Time does not heal when there is a loss of a child, but time does allow one to open
his eyes to see what is deep within his soul and the souls of people. We have
experienced such compassion in the people of-Mashpee. This compassion starts
with the elected seats of the Selectmen of this wonderful torn. Through the
friendship and loving guidance of Sele twoman, Carol Sherman, we have witnessed
the dedication and nearer ending work schedule of the Selectmen. This is truly felt
and seen in the policies and programs of Mashpee. From within hours of that
dreadful knock on our door, to Mashpee officer Lisa Hettinger appearing at the
door, to the flags being half-mast, to the fire department raising the flag as we
journeyed to the funeral, to the out-pouring of donors at Eric's blood drives, to the
support of our foundation, Heroes In Transition, to the outreaching help of the
Mashpee Chamber of Commerce, to all the business owners and restaurant owners
who have given to our foundation, we are truly humbled and honored to lire in a
town of such amazing and beautiful people.
With great gratitude, ,
1
Ken and Cynndyv Jone
Gold Star Parents of Capt Eric A.Jones, USM
