Mashpee Environmental Oversight Committee <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> April 21, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Mashpee Town Hall <br /> Present: Selectman John Cahalane, Mike Talbot,Rick York, Drew McManus <br /> Also: Dale McKay—Conservation Commission <br /> Absent: Chairman George Petersen <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was called to order by Mr. Talbot at 6:39 p.m. with a quorum. <br /> APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES December 16, 2014 & March 17, 2015 <br /> Mr. McManus made a motion to accept the minutes of December 16,2014. Mr. York seconded <br /> the motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> Selectman Cahalane made a motion to accept the minutes of March 17,2015 with revisions. Mr. <br /> McManus seconded the motion. 3 yes, 1 abstain <br /> COMMUNICATIONS <br /> None at this time <br /> ACTION ITEMS UPDATE <br /> Estuary Restoration/Shellfish Propagation <br /> Mr. York reported that the shellfish did well despite the severe winter. Mr. York was still waiting to <br /> hear back on his submitted grant proposal. The oyster beds at Mashpee Neck closed on April 1 but <br /> provided an excellent season. <br /> Pond & Estuary Water Quality <br /> Mr. York stated that he conducted year-round sampling, along with monitoring, in Santuit Pond and <br /> the estuaries. Four times during the summer, a big sampling will take place in July and August with <br /> teams of volunteers. More volunteers are needed for the sampling. Mr. Talbot recommended the <br /> Mashpee High School science teacher and Environmental Club who may be interested in assisting. <br /> Mr. York also mentioned the PALS program which would sample Mashpee's major ponds, including <br /> Martha's Pond. Mr. McManus noted that he could assist with Moody Pond access with advanced <br /> notice for any sampling occurring at that location. Mr. York indicated that Moody Pond was in good <br /> shape and had been sampled over a long period of time. <br /> Quashnet River Restoration Update <br /> Mr. McManus reported that he would schedule another meeting of the Steering Committee in June. <br /> On May 6, Mr. McManus will be working with a team at the Quashnet bogs using ground penetration <br /> to assess sand and ground peat depth. Mr. McManus also intended to check other areas in the bog for <br /> wetland restoration, noting that the priority was to confirm the river realignment feasibility study <br /> results or seek alternative options. <br /> 1 <br />
