MASHPEE AFFIRMATIVE ACTION MEETING <br /> DECEMBER 13 , 2001 <br /> Present : Jan Strickland , Norma Kumin, Melbourne Cragwell , Myrna <br /> Nuey , Donna Lopez , Gordon Green, Marilyn Farren. <br /> Chairman Jan S. opened the meeting at 4 : 30 p.m. at Mashpee Town <br /> Hall. <br /> The Minutes of April 26 , 2001 and September 13 , 2001 were <br /> accepted as presented . <br /> Gordon G. reported that the Superintendent ' s office is looking <br /> for a liaison from the Affirmative Action Committee to work <br /> at the school. Donna L. reported that she resigned from the <br /> School Committee and is no longer the School Committee <br /> representative to the Affirmative Action Comi-Attee. Therefore , <br /> Donna L. is asking for a reverse assignment to be a liaison <br /> at the school where she has been working with minority students. <br /> Donna L. believes that in order to be a member/liaison, the <br /> request will have to go before the Board of Selectmen to change <br /> the By-Laws., <br /> Myrna N. moved to amend the Committee make-up to include one <br /> Compliance officer, one Tribal Council member, four Community <br /> at-large members , one member/liaison in the School , and two <br /> alternate members (7 + 2 alternates for a total of 9 ) . <br /> Norwa K. seconded. Motion passed. This amendment will be <br /> forwarded to the Board of Selectmen for approval . <br /> Donna L. reported on the "No Place for Hate" essay contest . <br /> It will take 'place in February in the 6th grade English classes. <br /> The School Committee supports the idea. The Professional <br /> Development Curriculum Director is supportive. The essay will <br /> be limited to 100 words or less , about 3 to 4 sentences , fitting <br /> on a single page. 'There will be an ice-cream social to celebrate <br /> the event. Trish Piralski will write a grant to receive soitte <br /> available money from Willowbend. Donna L. will do a written <br /> report and submit a copy to the Affirmative Action Committtee. <br /> There will be newspaper coverage in The Enterprise and displays <br /> of the essays in the library and post office. <br /> Donna L. leads a group called "Teens Against Violence" dealing <br /> with issues of bullying , racism, and hoitio-phobia. There will <br /> be two presentations on dating violence for school faculty on <br /> January 18th at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. There are 6 to 11 kids <br /> -participating who are between the ages of 15 and 18 years of <br /> age. <br />
