The Civil rights team will do a diversity and sensitivity prograin <br /> next year. There needs to be on-going educational seminars . <br /> The staff had a Program on gaybashing , rape , violence, assault <br /> and racism. Donna Lopez is a mediator. She stated there is <br /> favoritism practiced. There should be only one affirmative <br /> action Policy for everyone to follow. The school had developed <br /> their own guidelines . Supt. Fleury expressed that is why he <br /> sits on this committee , to make sure things are clean cut . <br /> The PTA meetings are an appropriate Place to discuss diversity <br /> issues. Awareness will help teachers become more sensitive <br /> to issues . There was an incident where a student was name-called <br /> by a teacher. Students do not understand zero tolerance and <br /> sexual harrassment . Training needs to start at the beginning <br /> of the school year and include a forum for kids to speak to <br /> adults. After school would be an appropriate time for a forum. <br /> Myrna N. stated that both teachers and students have to obtain <br /> training. <br /> Myrna N. asked what the selection process is for the shadowing <br /> program. Mrs. St. Cyr worked with a business teacher this year , <br /> and they hope to offer it as a credit course. <br /> Supt. Fleury stated that he is fighting hard to keep this new <br /> position of head of student services in the budget. <br /> Someone stated that student fees are discriminatory, there should <br /> be no fees. <br /> Donna L. reported that out of the potential 250 anticipated <br /> essays to be received , there were 129 actually submitted. The <br /> ice cream social will be held on Wednesday , April 10 , 2002 , <br /> 1: 30 p.m. at the Quashnet School . Only the essay participants <br /> will, be invited to the social. The essays will be displayed <br /> in public places such as post office , library , Quashnet School , <br /> newspaper , Willowbend , Chamber of Commerce , Stop & Shop , Town <br /> Hall special event board. <br /> Donna L. requested a copy of Mashpee ' s Affirmative Action policy <br /> which includes guidelines , Policy , and mission statement. Gordon <br /> stated that Barnstable is willing to talk to our comrEtittee. <br /> They have a good policy. We need to get a copy from Barnstable, <br /> Sandwich , and Falmouth to compare policies. Myrna N. volunteered <br /> to call George Spivey , the Affirmative Action officer in <br /> Falmouth. <br /> The multi-cultural festival was attended by over 3 ,000 people . <br /> There will be a luncheon on April 4th for all the festival <br /> volunteers.
