Town of Mashpee <br /> Affirmative Action Committee <br /> Meeting Notes <br /> October 28,2008 <br /> Present: Marilyn Farren,Karen Murphy, Maryanne Wray <br /> Absent: Katherine Brown, Theresa Cook <br /> Also Present: Paul Perry,Deborah Vaughn, Cassie Fernandes <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting commenced at 5:40 p.m. <br /> APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES: <br /> Motion made by Ms.Wray to accept the minutes of September 17,2008. Motion seconded by <br /> Ms. Murphy. All voted unanimously. <br /> Motion made by Ms. Wray to accept the minutes of July 8,2008. Motion seconded by Ms. <br /> Murphy. All voted unanimously. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Elect New Chairman: <br /> Ms. Farren called for nominations for the Chair of the Committee. Ms. Murphy nominated Katherine <br /> Brown, but the Committee decided to wait until Ms. Brown arrived to discuss further. Ms. Farren <br /> mentioned that the past group chose to nominate co-chairs to lead the Committee,which could be an <br /> additional consideration. <br /> Letter of Interest: <br /> Mr. Paul Perry has submitted a letter of interest to the Board of Selectmen regarding his interest in <br /> joining the Affirmative Action Committee. The Selectmen forwarded Mr. Perry's letter of interest to <br /> the Committee for their recommendation. Ms. Farren invited Mr. Perry to share with the Committee <br /> his background. Mr. Perry shared that he has lived on Cape since 1964 as a resident of Falmouth, <br /> moving to Mashpee in 1994. Mr. Perry's family has been on Cape since 1903. Mr. Perry has worked <br /> with the Department of Corrections for 25 years and was interested in joining the Committee to be <br /> involved with something different from his daily work as well as to become more involved with the <br /> community. When asked about meeting attendance,Mr.Perry did indicate that his work schedule is <br /> now a 4 day work week so his arrival may be just after 5:30 p.m. <br /> Motion made by Ms. Wray to recommend Mr. Perry to the Board of Selectmen for the <br /> Affirmative Action Committee. Motion seconded by Ms. Murphy. All voted unanimously. <br /> Deborah Vaughn is also in attendance to learn about membership in the Affirmative Action <br /> Committee. In addition to teaching at the high school, Ms. Vaughn is also very busy as senior and <br /> freshman class advisor,and the Key Club advisor. With all of her roles as advisor and teacher, Ms. <br /> Vaughn strongly encourages community service and throughout her professional career has been <br /> involved with the community. Ms. Vaughn inquired about the activities of the Committee. <br />
