Student Activities:
During the week of December 15-19,high school students will be participating in"Challenge Day"
where they will participate in encounter groups and interventions. "Challenge Day"is a program that
promotes respect for one another's differences. The program also seeks out community members to be
involved. It was suggested that the Committee might consider inviting the teachers involved with the
program to speak about the program to the Committee.
Future Activities:
Jane Emery has invited the Committee to participate in the"No Dissing/No Bullying Day"on
Wednesday, January 29. Past participation has included signed paper bricks such as "no name
calling." At the last program, a poster was created by a group of 61h grade boys which has been on
display in the Guidance Office. The program is a great opportunity to introduce children early on to
positive ideas about how to treat others. Committee members discussed the positive nature of
exposing children to such positive ideas at school where some may not be exposed to it at home.
Affirmative Action Role:
In response to a question about the Committee's role,Ms. Farren indicated that the Committee
addresses town employee affirmative action issues and serves as a hearing board should there be a
complaint.
