3
Capital Improvement Program Committee
Minutes
December 8,2016
r
Information Technology:
NAS Storage--Town Hall; 50 000: i
i
David Delvecchio Information Technology discussed the need for continued growth in
technology. In fiscal year 2017 aNetwork Security.Analysis identified a large security risk with
the outdated versions of VMWare spanning 4 VMWare Services. Mr. Delvecchio further
3
defined the$50,000 cost estimate for a new NAS Storage device. {
Network Attached Storage(NAS)is the most important piece of technology requirement for the E
Town. It was explained that all data would be placed in a NAS device. Identical information
would be contained within another location to serve as a backup if there was a loss or security 1
breach. It was agreed this upgrade is extremely important and deemed mission critical for the
Town of Mashpce. Although the life expectancy of the NAS is 5-6 years, the device will not be
obsolete, but it may run out of storage space. Mr. Delvecchio indicated he would attempt to size
the NAS accordingly and as a placchoider, the equipment upgrade would be contained'in the CIP
program is FY 2022•
In reviewing the project proposal Mr. Delvecchio requested an additional $10,000 for a NAS
unit at the Fire Department.
VMWare Server and Switch Fire Department: $25,000
To increase performance and disaster recovery, the VMWare Server and Switch at the Fire
Department is proposed to be upgraded in FYI 9. Mr, Delvecchio indicated the VMWare Servers
should be retired after five years, and all equipment should work in unison. It was noted the
network switch at the Fire Department is over 13 years old and does not support the new power
over Ethernet wireless access points. It is possible the device could fail at any time.
Chemical Fire Suppression: $32,000—Estimate:
Discussion followed with respect to the installation of a dry sprinkler system to protect.the
technology equipment at the Town Hall. This particular item of importance has not been
addressed under the Capital Improvement Program. It is estimated a chemical fire suppression
system would cost approximately$32,000. It was agreed cost assumptions would be further
reviewed.
It was recommended a new capital line item for the CTP would consider network cooling as well
as fire suppression for Information Technology.
