Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management
Committee
September 22, 2016
7:30 PM
Mashpee Town Hall
Meeting called by: Debi McManus
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B. Nichols
Attendees: Members: Donald MacDonald, Barbara Nichols
Guests:
The minutes of the August 25, 2016 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Don Macdonald
and second by Barbara Nichols
Agenda topics
[Agenda topic 11 Lake level/River outflow
The lake measurements were taken on September 1S`. and 15"'. They were 55.0 and 54.9 ft. above sea
level, with 4 and 7 inches of water flowing over the board closest to the lake, There were 4 and 3.5 inches
of water in the stream by the stairs. 54.9 marked the lowest level since this committee has been keeping
track of levels in 2005, although in September the last 2 years, the level has also been at 55.0.
Levels were reported to Drew McManus in Conservation. There was .7 inches of rain noted in Barbara's
rain gauge.
The August 26`"edition of the Mashpee Enterprise had an article quoting Steve Hurley of the Division
of Fisheries and Wildlife and Drew McManus in Conservation. Steve said that although lake levels had
dropped the ground water levels in the area were still fairly high. Drew mentioned that he had had to
adjust equipment in the area of the Mill Pond fishway to allow the herring to get back down river this fall.
Conclusions: The lake is at the lowest level since we have been keeping records in 2005.
[Agenda topic 2] Harbormaster news
Discussion: Although there was no report from Al Turner, he did send Barbara a picture of his family,
which has been incorporated into the article introducing him in Fall newsletter.
Conclusions: The newsletter will have an article introducing Al Turner as the new Harbolmaster
