117 Industrial Drive Extension – Request Changes
To paving plan – New Image Landscapes LLC
Representative – Michael Szarlan
Michael Szarlan appeared and said the initial Plan called for extensive paving across the lot and they
would like to alter how much is to be paved and just keep some yard space as graded now. He
presented a color coded Plan and indicated green code denotes what is paved now; and yellow to
show what they are proposing to pave as soon as gas line gets installed (which is expected to be
done in 8 to 10 weeks). A copy of the color-coded Plan is attached to the original, printed set of these
minutes.
The green paved area already done included: the front entrance; the curbing in the inside; the
customer parking by the office, as well as handicap parking spaces; and all 3 emergency exits out of
the garage.
Joel Clifford advised the Fire Department requires a 22' access asphalt roadway around the entire
building. Joel said the Fire Department has a template established and is available at the Fire
Department.
Glen Harrington said as long as paving gets around tight tank to protect it and the tank has a cover
over it, that would be all right. Mr. Szarlan said it does.
Mike Mendoza advised a temporary CO can be issued until the gas line gets in. Also, Mike advised
Applicant that an updated Plan is to be submitted.
John Renz to discuss location of
Proposed carousel at Mashpee Commons
John Renz said he is here to just have a preliminary conversation about what might be needed if they
placed a carousel at Mashpee Commons. He said he met briefly with the board before, but the
carousel wouldn't fit at the location they were considering then. They are now thinking of location
across from the Library but before going too far, he is here looking to see what sort of things might be
required—for instance, bathrooms; or any fire concerns. Mr. Renz said the carousel is powered by
someone pedaling a bicycle. He said there is a similar one in Boston and they had Tom Brady
pedaling the bike as a fundraiser.
Mr. Renz said Mashpee Commons is also thinking of having a gazebo-type permanent structure at
the location. Catherine Laurent asked if the carousel would be in the gazebo. Mr. Renz said "yes"
until Columbus Day and then the gazebo could be used for other events.
Mr. Renz said the owner may or may not put a shed in. He makes and carves his own horses for the
carousel in the shed—no power tools used; all done by hand. He would operate probably from
Memorial Day until Columbus Day on a regular basis. Carousel would be lit by plugging into power at
corner. Music would be from small boom box. Carousel has just 4 seats.
Mr. Renz said the carousel would run at night—probably 4-8 p.m.
Glen Harrington said since running at night and no public bathrooms available, it would probably be
better to have porta potty for convenience. John Renz said can that be unisex, or what's required?
Mr. Renz said research needs to be done to determine what's required.
3
