r� <br />Town of Mashpee <br />' Shellfish Commission 16 Great Neck Road North <br />Mashpee, MA 02649 <br />MINUTES OF MEETING 2-9-16 <br />Attendance: Peter Thomas, William Holmes, Brian Everett, Marcus Hendricks & <br />Richard York. Public: Darryl Christensen and Richard Cook <br />Convene Meetina: 7:00 PM <br />Public Comment: None <br />Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve the 1-12-16 minutes was made by <br />Holmes and seconded by Thomas. Vote: unanimous to approve as printed. <br />Shellfish Constable's Report: <br />I ordered 4,480 bags of oyster spat on shell (remote set — 1 mm size), and <br />10 million quahog seed (2 mm size) from the ARC hatchery in Dennis via <br />Barnstable County Cooperative Extension at the County bid price of $911000 for <br />quahog seed, and $12.50/bag for oyster seed. Funds for 2,000 of the oyster <br />bags for the Mashpee River, and the 10 million quahog seed for the SC -16 area <br />are from the October 2015 Town Meeting appropriation for Shellfish Propagation. <br />Barnstable County Cooperative Extension supplied the funds for another 480 <br />bags of oyster seed for the Mashpee River, The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is <br />purchasing 2,000 bags of oyster seed with funds from their EPA Healthy <br />Communities grant to restore oyster beds and water quality in Shoestring Bay. <br />They will also be purchasing cultch with EPA funds. <br />The hiring processes for the new Harbormaster, and Shellfish/Water <br />Quality Technician are underway. <br />Old Business: Propagation 2016 — Seed ordered and preparation on schedule. <br />Comprehensive Watershed Nitrogen Management Plan (CWNMP) -- Articles <br />have been submitted for May Town meeting to create the new Dept. of Natural <br />Resources (DNR), and a DNR Director position. <br />Shellfishery Management Plan -- Seeding oyster beds and quahog areas <br />identified in the CWNMP and closing them for up to 3 years, then opening for <br />harvest on a rotational schedule was discussed. <br />Great River Ramp Reconstruction — Nothing new. <br />Public Access — Darryl Christensen presented maps of some public access sites <br />that he printed out from the Mashpee GIS website, and discussed information <br />about these sites with the Commission. <br />
