�t-VOTE '.OF <br />.,"COhTEEytl 404 <br />a <br />t <br />• � ryr �f7� � eq ,• } <br />S7A�13 C,lv �CO <br />Town of Mashpee <br />Shellfish Commission 16 Great Neck Road North <br />Mashpee, MA 02649 <br />MINUTES OF MEETING 3-8-16 <br />Attendance: William Holmes, Brian Everett, Marcus Hendricks, Stephen <br />Marques, and Richard York <br />Public: Darryl Christensen, Richard Cook, Sam Houghton (Mashpee Enterprise), <br />Brendan McDonald (Boy Scout Troup 36, working on Citizenship in the <br />Community Merit Badge), Matt McDonald (Brendan's father), and Michael <br />Ronhock. <br />Convene Meeting, 7:00 PM (Vice-chairman Holmes) <br />Public Comment: Michael Ronhock told the Commission that he wants to apply <br />for a Shellfish Aquaculture license for an area in Great River. The Shellfish <br />Constable will work with him on the application. <br />Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve the 2-9-16 minutes was made by York <br />and seconded by Everett. Vote: unanimous for approval as printed. <br />Shellfish Constable's Report: <br />The Town Clerk started issuing shellfish permits March 1. Commercial <br />permits are orange and Family permits are dark green. <br />Water temperatures are now in the low 40s. Blue and green crabs are <br />active. We are removing green crabs from our traps. <br />Assistant Harbormaster Rick Santangelo, Waterways Assistant Ashley Harrigan, <br />and Shellfish Commissioner Brian Everett completed the Shellfish Constable <br />Training Program at Mass. Maritime Academy last week. I gave a presentation <br />on Shellfish/Water Quality Restoration. <br />The Town Manager cut the proposed fiscal year 2017 budget that was submitted <br />for the new DNR (if created at the May 2016 Town meeting) which will reduce the <br />amount shellfish seeded in 2017 for the shellfish component of the CWNMP. <br />The June 2017 seed purchases are in the fiscal year 2017 budget (July 1, 2016 <br />to June 30, 2017) that is approved at the May 2016 Town Meeting. <br />New Business <br />Shellfish Regulations 2016: <br />The Shellfish Constable stated that the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's Fish and <br />Game Commission is working on a draft of hunting and fishing regulations that <br />would apply to Tribe members on Tribal lands and anywhere else. The Town <br />and Tribe are currently both using the Mashpee Shellfish Regulations under a <br />verbal agreement made in the early 1990s. If the Tribe decides make different <br />shellfishing regulations, we could discuss recommendations for changes to the <br />Mashpee Shellfish Regulations at a future meeting. <br />
